Warrior Bonfire Program

This project focused on shifting a non-profit's brand identity toward deep emotional resonance and community support. By prioritizing extensive research into symbolism—specifically exploring how campfire imagery, heritage motifs, and shared visual markers speak to combat-wounded veterans—I developed a respectful, human-centered brand system featuring a custom logomark and warm-toned visual hierarchy designed to foster immediate trust, resilience, and shared healing.

About the project

This project tackled the challenge of updating a non-profit brand identity while maintaining a deep sense of authenticity for the community it serves. The primary problem centered on creating a modernized visual presence that felt immediately familiar to the veterans rather than serving as a jarring, complete departure from their established roots. Because the organization relies heavily on a shared sense of camaraderie and trust, any design evolution had to respect their existing heritage while elevating the overall polish and scalability of their assets. To solve this, I leaned heavily into extensive research on symbolism rather than psychological testing, exploring how specific visual markers, campfire motifs, and heritage imagery speak directly to combat-wounded veterans. By carefully analyzing traditional symbols of resilience and shared healing, I mapped out a path to bridge the gap between their historical identity and a modern, cohesive brand system. This ensured the final solution honored their past while successfully positioning them for future growth.

Project Details

This project tackled the challenge of delivering a sensitive, human-centered brand refresh for the Warrior Bonfire Program to better connect with combat-wounded veterans, shifting its visual narrative toward modern resilience, shared healing, and community support. The core solution was a holistic branding system built around a powerful, campfire-inspired logomark, an intentional warm-toned color palette, and scalable digital guidelines designed to build instant trust and deep emotional resonance. Operating within a vulnerable non-profit sector required navigating delicate stakeholder expectations and prioritizing the psychological safety of the community being served.

Things I Did

I started the project by conducting foundational target audience and competitor research, diving deep into the psychological needs and lived experiences of combat-wounded veterans to inform a respectful, deeply empathetic visual direction. From there, I led the strategic conceptualization phase, exploring iterative logomark designs that combined symbolic fire imagery with themes of fellowship, recovery, and strength. Ultimately, I delivered a complete design system with comprehensive style guides, color hierarchies, and digital mockups, proving my capability to execute end-to-end, research-backed brand strategies for mission-driven organizations.

Unfortunately, this project was discontinued because the founder passed, but we all hope to continue working together again in the future when the foundation is ready.
